CHAPTER XO

MICHAEL "TAPS" POWELL

I enlisted in the US NAVY in 1992 on delayed entry program at the young age of 19. I shipped off to Boot Camp on my 20th Birthday. I served from 1993 to 1999 aboard the USS SAVANNAH AOR-4 (Pit Snipe) and the USS ENTERPRISE CVN-65 (A-Ganger). I achieved the rank of Petty Officer Second Class (Machinist Mate) and qualified “TOP WATCH” in both M & A divisions. I never planned for the military to be a career but I did make the most out of the time I invested in it. In 99’ looking for a change of pace from military life and VA. Beach, I moved my wife of now 26 years to Nashville and we’ve been here ever since. I have 3 awesome children; 23-19-16 and 1 granddaughter, all of whom I am very proud of. I have 2 French Bulldogs and a Mini Pot Bellied Pig named Jimmy Dean. There’s rarely a dull moment here at the Powell house with these crazy critters.
